Fall is that time of the year when the oranges, browns, and neutrals take the streets. We are getting ready for winter. Looking forward to Christmas and New Year’s Eve and everything seems to be perfect. So it’s our wardrobe. It’s very important to determine the basics in order to do smart shopping and wear what we love the most. So in this post, we are going to talk about 7 basics you should have for this fall and why.

What means basics?

Basic clothes are called timeless pieces. Those classics will always be in your wardrobe and even in your outfits. The best thing about them is that they can be worn in many different styles and with a variety of combinations. Besides, depending on the basics we have, we can purchase some others and create a dreamy closet full of garments we love.

No matter your age or style, basics will never fail you. So if you are looking for investing in good quality clothing, I recommend you to start with basics. These are so important to be long-lasting because they are the most used and solve the problem of what to wear.

How wear basics?

I love this question because I don’t know how to answer it at all. Basics are basics because they fit well with every type of cloth and color. They are mostly neutrals colors so there are infinitive combinations. Here I show you what I consider the 7 basics for this fall with different looks so you can see the versatility of each piece.

Basics for fall

Trench coat

The forever loved trench coat. This last year was most seen in an oversized fit. I fell in love with it but actually, if you think about it every trench coat is classic, stylish, and fits well with any outfit you can imagine. Basic, fancy, or urban it doesn’t matter, a good trench coat will be your ally in those Autumn gray days that you don’t know what to wear.

Knit sweaters

This fabric is so lovely and ideal for fall. There are different types of sweaters like long neck, oversized, etc. But as you can see in the pictures, these looks can be mixed all together and still look classic and unique. It’s the magic of neutrals and basics for me. And the most important thing about knitwear, in my opinion, is that is warmer. It happened to me this fall in Vienna where I’m experimenting with a colder fall. Well, knit sweaters saved me. What about you? Which are your allies for colder falls?

Boots

Nowadays feeling comfortable is very important at the time to decide the footwear. But from my point of view, styles are so democratized now that you can wear a pair of boots and look incredible, rock your outfit, and feel so good walking with them. There are different types of heels, sizes, and shapes and makes it easier to try on and find your next favorite pair of boots.

In these pictures, there are different models and heels sizes. If you just take a look at the bottom of the outfit you can see if it’s more casual or fancy. What I love the most about this is to imagine different combinations between them. And they all look incredibly well!

Turtle neck shirts

These are my favorite basics. I know that this cut is not the most loved one for everyone but I encourage you to try it on. They are not only warmer but also shape your body so well and look good with different types of clothes. In this case, I only posted black ones so you can see how can be worn: total black outfit, more casual with jeans, or a layered look with a trench coat (another basic).

Mom jeans

Mom jeans came into our lives to simplify it all. They not only look incredible but also are more comfortable than skinny jeans, for example. And that’s a plus we should all take advantage of. So if at this time you haven’t tried mom jeans yet, I don’t know what are you waiting for.

What I like the most about mom jeans is that you can wear them at different times of the year no matter the weather. For example, in spring they look great with a pair of sandals and a white shirt. In winter, with boots, a knit sweater, a big scarf, and a long coat.

White shirt

White shirts have a wide versatility. They can be worn in many different ways and that’s amazing. Besides, it’s a timeless piece that is never out-of-trend and will complete your look in a classic but chic way. As you can see in these pictures, white shirts look great with colors and in different shapes. At this point is all about you and your likes. Which colors do you prefer and what ways to use a shirt.

In my case, I discovered oversized shirts this last summer and I started wearing them as dresses too. They are so comfortable and good-looking. So don’t limit yourself and try clothes in different times of the year and reinvent the way you wear them. Play with accessories as well and footwear.

Leather coat

These coats are so fancy and change the game of your outfit when you include them. They come in different types of browns and black. As well as jackets, oversized blazers or long coats. And for those who don’t like to wear leather, they come in synthetic leather too. But these last ones don’t last much and are more contaminating to the planet. In this case, I recommend buying them in a vintage or second-hand store. So you extend the life of this piece that was already produced and will last for life.

So here were some inspiration looks with basics for fall we should all have in our wardrobe. Classic pieces not only simplify our life at the time to think what to wear but also came to change the game. Having them means that our wardrobe is versatile with many outfits options.

It is essential to start investing in good quality timeless pieces in order to have a smart closet and be a more conscious fashion consumer. It is a process and the most important thing is to start asking ourselves about our fashion consumption. The rest is small steps that all together will make the difference.
